Basket Weaving with Carolina Bamboo

Join artisan Aaron McCarty, co-owner of Carolina Bamboo, for an immersive day of basket weaving using natural materials like zu (kudzu) and boo (bamboo). Participants will learn about sustainable harvesting, vine preparation, and traditional techniques for shaping and finishing a handcrafted basket.
Aaron will guide participants step-by-step through the weaving process, providing both processed and raw materials to offer a hands-on understanding of bamboo and kudzu craftwork. Each participant will complete a basket approximately 6–8 inches in diameter and 5–6 inches tall, featuring a fire-treated bamboo handle.
This class is limited to 12 participants to ensure individualized instruction.
All materials are included in the registration fee.
Fee: $60 per participant
Ages: 13 and up
Please bring: Water bottle, lunch, and comfortable outdoor attire
*We will be setup outdoors with heaters for this class and encourage you to bring a comfortable chair. We will have our outdoor seating chairs available too.
