Butterfly Pinning Workshop

Learn the fascinating art and science of butterfly preservation in this hands-on workshop designed for aspiring collectors, naturalists, and insect enthusiasts. Participants will learn the fundamentals of preparing and pinning butterflies for long-term preservation while gaining an appreciation for the role insect collections play in education, research, and conservation.

Using butterflies from our Butterfly Bungalow exhibit throughout the season, you'll practice proper pinning techniques and learn how to spread wings, position specimens, and care for preserved insects. In addition to practice specimens, each participant will receive display-quality butterflies from the exhibit to kick start their own pinned insect collection.

Best of all, you'll take home the pinning supplies used during the workshop so you can continue practicing and begin preserving butterflies on your own.
